Cosmata Lindie is a Guyanese writer and visual artist of Indigenous heritage. She grew up in the upper regions of the Berbice River and her life in this remote riverain environment has been the most influential elements in her creative journey, shaping her vision and outlook in her work.

Through her writing and visual art, she seeks to understand and portray the relationship between nature and humanity as she interprets it.

In 2022 Cosmata was longlisted for the Brooklyn Caribbean Literary Festival’s Elizabeth Nunez Award for writers residing in the Caribbean, and was one of five Caribbean writers shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize in 2023.

Her short fiction has been featured locally in the Sunday Stabroek (The Birds - 2019 and Crossroads – 2020). She has been published internationally in adda - UK (Where the Winds Blow - July 2023), and Doek! Literary Magazine - Namibia (The Deer’s Tale - December 2023).

Her short story, Dark Flows the River, is one of seven stories in the anthology “One Day, Congotay” a collection of Caribbean folklore themed short stories published in October 2024 by the Trinidad and Tobago based Caribbean Books Foundation.

Cosmata puts the same effort into her visual art as she does in her writing and she has participated in several art exhibitions in Guyana. These include public exhibitions at The National Gallery of Art – Castellani House, and the privately organized FineArt.gy’s Beyond the Brush exhibitions in 2023 and 2024.

She also exhibited her work in neighbouring Suriname in 2023, as part of a joint Guyana and Suriname art exhibition. Cosmata currently resides in the town of New Amsterdam in Berbice, Guyana.
